BROOKLYN, N.Y., Sept. 2, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Saga Education, the nation's nonprofit leader in helping states and districts get high-impact tutoring right, will partner with Brooklyn Laboratory Charter School, a 6-12 school in New York City, to launch a high-impact math tutoring program to accelerate learning outcomes for hundreds of students in grades six through 10 this fall.
Saga Education will support the school's commitment to high-dosage, small-group tutoring with in-person tutor recruitment and management, tutor training and ongoing coaching, and curriculum.
Brooklyn Lab Charter School was founded in 2013 with the mission to eliminate the achievement gap by preparing scholars with the academic foundation and leadership skills necessary to succeed in college and professional life. The school serves 750 students in grades six through 12.
Beginning in September, Brooklyn Lab students will work with tutors in small-group sessions for a minimum of 90 minutes weekly. Saga integrates tutoring into the school day, uses consistent tutors, and relies on frequent coaching and professional development to adapt tutoring to each student's needs.
"Brooklyn Lab tailors the learning experience to each scholar's needs while never wavering from our mission of college preparation, acceptance and completion," said Dr. Garland Thomas-McDavid, chief executive of Brooklyn Lab Charter School. "The partnership with Saga Education will help our scholars get additional exposure to grade-level content, while filling foundational gaps and building lasting understanding of mathematical concepts."
"For more than a decade, Saga has demonstrated firsthand how high-impact tutoring changes the trajectory of students' lives," said Alan Safran, CEO and co-founder of Saga Education. "High-impact tutoring is a community investment. When schools and nonprofits work together, we can close learning gaps, boost attendance, and develop the next generation of teachers. We're proud to work alongside Brooklyn Lab where they support the unique learning needs of every student."
The strongest evidence of Saga's effectiveness comes from randomized controlled trials run by the University of Chicago Education Lab. Their research found that Saga produces a strong, evidence-based program that accelerates student math learning by up to 2.5 years, yields higher standardized test scores and math GPAs, and improves student confidence and engagement.
As of 2025, Saga's in-school day tutoring has served over 50,000 students nationwide.
